About the SERU assessment
The sample above uses the two question styles TfL uses in the real Safety, Equality and Regulatory Understanding (SERU) assessment: multiple choice questions and sentences you complete by adding the missing words. The real assessment is computer-based and taken at TfL offices, and it has applied to both new private hire driver applicants and licence renewals since 1 October 2021.
TfL bases the questions on the PHV Driver's Handbook, covering driver licensing, private hire vehicle requirements, passenger and driver safety, disability equality and safeguarding. What is the SERU assessment?
SERU stands for Safety, Equality and Regulatory Understanding. It is a TfL assessment for London private hire drivers, taken on a computer at TfL offices, with multiple choice questions and sentence completion. New applicants and renewing drivers have both needed it since 1 October 2021.
